ABSTRACT
What is a research proposal? This chapter focuses on how to create short but effective research proposals. The research proposal is the first step in any research project, no matter how big or small. The proposal identifies the title and focus, and gives an indication on literature in the field. Unlike research plans, research proposals can be a formal requirement or just a document for a student to engage with potential supervisors. Whatever shape the it takes, this chapter will give practical guidance and the tools required to write a good proposal.
