ABSTRACT

It is now clear after many bloody world wars and civil wars that our survival as a human species depends on us being able to accept each other’s differences and recognize our common humanity. Schools have a vital role to play since these wars ‘start in the minds of men’ - in attitudes formed in schools’ desire to place the country and any established religion in a favorable light. To counter this tendency schools can and should do more to include other voices, and stories that can offer alternative views. This extra effort to be inclusive is needed if we are to avoid the ‘one story’ trap that tends to ‘other’ people and limit our ability to not only see others as full human beings but also to work together to solve our common global challenges.
