ABSTRACT

Too often individual teachers have had to bear the burden of carrying the torch for global education alone. Students need to see global values modeled in their lives, not just taught as knowledge items. To achieve this goal, schools need to include the need to prepare global citizens somewhere in their mission statement and translate it to the everyday workings of the school. There are many other activities that can best be done through a whole school approach, signaling a degree of seriousness concerning the value the schools place on developing globally minded citizens. These include the development of a globally aware student newspaper, school-and community-wide projects that are glocal in nature and professional development that assists teachers in how to develop a global mindset.
