ABSTRACT

In recent studies on literary history, the status and roles of romanticism have become more adequately understood. Scholars always believe that romanticism focuses on feelings, and The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons also states, "The expression of touching feelings must begin with the air". Scholars hold the same view on the spirit of the Jian'an poetry, which is concluded in The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons as: "Be open-minded to show their air; be open-hearted to present their talents". Chen Zi'ang's poetic viewpoints are mainly shown in his preface to "On Long Bamboos". However, the most powerful and specific explanation about Chen Zi'ang's poetic viewpoints is "On Long Bamboos", which is a mutual test of Chen Zi'ang's theory and practice. Therefore, Chen Zi'ang's "Song of Mounting the Youzhou Terrace" provides a powerful research clue for the romantic creative approach in ancient lyric poetry.
