ABSTRACT
The High Tang Atmosphere is, therefore, a reflection of the spirit of the High Tang. However, it is obviously wrong to think that the High Tang Atmosphere is the flattery of the feudal ruling class, which is the main content of the poems written upon the emperor's orders, though never representing the High Tang Atmosphere. The mistakes of interpreting the High Tang Atmosphere as flattery or the simplified understanding of liberating poems as reflections on the intensified contradictions inevitably lead to confusions in understanding. By virtue of the poets' rich imagination of life and combined with the mature development of poetry in ideas and arts since Jian'an, the High Tang Atmosphere is flying in the vast and burgeoning open space and describing the distinct characteristics of that era. Today, the High Tang Atmosphere as the people have discussed is understood as a phenomenon in the history of Chinese poetry and accepted as an abundant treasure in the literary heritage.
