ABSTRACT

The Tang poetry is a glorious milestone in the history of ancient Chinese poetry. Its fresh artistic feeling, simple but profound language, vigorous atmosphere, and liberating sentiment all leave an unforgettable impression on people. It’s impossible to inquire about the nature of this peak and to explore its mystery in a few words. Therefore, I tried to achieve some general understanding of the poetry in the High Tang from different perspectives. In this way, I wrote articles whenever I had ideas, some of which are relatively direct while others are relatively indirect. The first part is called “The Peak of the Tang Poetry” and the second part “Far Notes of the Tang Poetry”, which are combined into the book A Comprehensive Study of the Tang Poetry. It includes “The Poet Li Bai” published as a book earlier. “Essays on Poems” at the book’s end consists of 19 short essays, most of which were written in the early years on poems from the beginning of classical Chinese poetry to the Tang and Song Dynasties. Most of the essays are my understanding of a few poetic lines not worth serious discussion, which are included as the residual sound of the book.
