ABSTRACT
POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS are indispensable in a democracy. Although they are often treated as nothing more than candidates’ attempts to win elections, they are far more than that. They provide an opportunity for anyone with an interest in the direction of the country to participate in the process of shaping that direction. Furthermore, they are a time when voters can evaluate the performances and promises of the parties and their candidates. It is hard to imagine how democracy could function without campaigns.
