ABSTRACT

If the minute-by-minute maelstrom of breaking news holds no charms for you, life as a feature writer has an obvious appeal. It all adds up to a strong demand for features in magazines and newspapers which in turn means a strong demand for good feature writers. If you want to be a feature writer, whether on general topics or on a particular area of interest, then there are suitable publications - and potential commissions - out there waiting for you. In these forms, they may be produced by the news teams rather than feature writers. But very many features describe the aftermath or consequences of the event, either at the time or later, and these are often the work of feature writers. A feature about a new diet craze might be based around the writer trying it out and reporting the results.
