ABSTRACT

Sources are the places we get our information. If a lot of journalism is about finding things out, sources are the places where they are to be found. There are lots of such places, official and unofficial, open and secret. They are the lifeblood of the news business. There is a clear and uncomplicated link between the statement and its source, and as long as the reporting is accurate, the story will feel solid. The more open you can be about your sources, the more credibility your work has, and the more audiences are able to draw their own conclusions about what they are being told. Primary sources are those where you are getting the news straight from the horse’s mouth, and there is no barrier or filter between you and the information. As the name suggests, information that you get from a secondary source is at one remove from primary sources.
