ABSTRACT
This chapter argues that the diplomacy of a country, especially a small country, is shaped by its political geography, historical relationships and the resulting idea of the nation that colors the personal and professional experiences of its practitioners. This chapter explains how the geographical size, location and history of Laos have molded the country’s outlook, forming its particular approach to international relations, and engagement in international institutions.
