ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 focuses on the importance of readers building up their coping resources before delving into traumatic memories and doing other difficult personal growth work as they look toward the future. This chapter introduces two concepts—the Trauma Backpack and the Coping Toolbox—to guide readers through the processes of understanding the ways that survivors may be carrying around past trauma and of developing a diverse set of coping strategies to use in their journey toward triumphing over past abuse.
