ABSTRACT

In Chapter 6, the focus is on how survivors can take proactive steps to address mental and emotional health challenges, as well as to build resilience and positive emotional health. The chapter begins by discussing the “emotional roller coaster” that can come along with the long-term recovery process. It reviews common mental health symptoms and conditions that may result from the trauma of abuse (e.g., PTSD, anxiety, and depression), as well as ways to seek help from healthcare and mental health professionals who are competent to treat survivors.
