ABSTRACT

It should be noted that any course can have a digital storytelling component added to its curriculum that would not take an entire semester or even six weeks. Digital stories can be taught in as little as a week. Adapting assignments, goals, and purposes to a course with preexisting learning objectives can be challenging. The new materials and requirements must satisfy both old and new learning objectives. This chapter demonstrates how these objectives overlap each other and the ways in which they are fulfilled. By the end of the first year, educators had established a standard core of major assignments that could be taught in any semester with nearly endless variations of strategic partners, community-building activities, community-understanding activities, and a digital storytelling premiere. The major assignments are taught in the following order every semester: Individual Digital Story, Community History Paper, Introductory Video, Feature Public History Digital Story, Digital Storytelling Premiere, and Reflection Essay.
