ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will look at some of the first recorded concerns about determinism. As far back as Lucretius, philosophers have wondered whether indeterminism is required for free will. Contemporary physicists tend to think that the world is indeterministic at the quantum level, but it remains to be seen whether quantum indeterminacies make a difference to freedom.
