ABSTRACT
Having covered some of the history of the debate over free will and determinism in previous chapters, this chapter introduces the contemporary discussion. The focus here is on the libertarian viewpoint. Defending the libertarian view requires arguing that free will is incompatible with determinism (a task that is typically done via the consequence argument), and also that free will is compatible with indeterminism.
