ABSTRACT

Asking questions about the value of free will prompts us to reflect (and introspect) on our own experience of acting freely, and of our agency more broadly. Of course, there’s no guarantee that our perception of our own agency is accurate; so in this chapter we will briefly look at some lab experiments that appear to undermine these perceptions. The good news (at least for those of us who believe in free will) is that the current state of scientific research doesn’t appear to give us a compelling reason to doubt the existence of free will.
