ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will point out some surprising implications of the way we talk about our abilities. In certain situations, we are inclined to endorse the truth of certain subjunctive conditionals involving what we can and cannot do; but some of these conditionals conflict with our intuitions about the fixity of the past.
