ABSTRACT

The epilogue discusses the transformation from developing bathing beaches at the seaside to the building of swimming pools in urban areas. A tremendous change in leisure policies occurred after the 1966 and 1967 riots took a heavy toll on colonial authorities’ political legitimacy. Within 10 years, following the large-scale social disturbances against British imperialism, the government built in different urban district seven public swimming pools, which used to be considered an expensive extravagance.
