ABSTRACT
It has often been said that Fun House is essentially a live album, that it captures the Stooges’ live set at the time, and in some ways this is true. The track listing of the album accords with the band’s setlist in the extant live recordings of 1970, with the exception that “Loose” and “Down on the Street” are transposed. In accentuating the live nature of Fun House, some slightly embellished narratives have been put forward by music writers and the band members themselves over the years. Fun House therefore would not be the album that it is if not for the particular studio experience and the specific contributions of everyone involved, including the producer Don Gallucci and engineer Brian Ross-Myring. While Gallucci is rightly lauded for being a hands-off producer, he did bring a number of important qualities to the sessions.
