ABSTRACT

Systems-centered therapy and training (SCT) has widespread use in group psychotherapy, where it started, as well as in the training of group therapists, consultation to organizations and teams, and in education. Functional subgrouping is the heart of SCT practice. Yvonne Agazarian introduced the model of role, goal and context that is central in applying SCT to organizations. In the 1960s, prior to developing SCT, Yvonne and her good friend and colleague Anita Simon developed a System for Analyzing Verbal Interaction, a coding system for observing and coding verbal interactions. In 1995, Yvonne implemented her vision and founded SCT and Research Institute (SCTRI) , a non-profit organization, using the theory and practice of SCT to build and develop the organization, that is, putting SCT into organizational practice. SCT does introduce radical differences. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts in this book.
