ABSTRACT

Building on our work in Chapters 5 and 6, this chapter describes how we have put our role-systems map to work in our clinical, organizational and training contexts. We start with discussing how our map has helped us more usefully assess readiness for change on its various dimensions. We also review the impact this new map has had on our training of therapists and consultants and the imperative in SCT training: to recognize how the goals of different systems relate to different contexts. For example, the therapy system is more compatible with the development of the inner-person, while training and organizational consultation focuses on inter-person and whole system goals. We also introduce our new phylogenetic role protocol that has emerged as we worked with our role-system theory. Developing this new protocol came from our heightened capacity in using our map to see more of the whole system context. And lastly in this chapter, we return to SAVI, the outcome of our very early theorizing with Anita Simon, to begin to explore how we have been integrating our role-system theory with the SAVI Grid.
