ABSTRACT

Correlates of physical activity are factors associated with different levels of physical activity, and their identification is an important first step prior to developing interventions. This chapter summarises the evidence concerning the correlates/determinants of physical activity, including barriers to participation. This is a fundamental aspect of the psychology of physical activity, but includes more than just psychological constructs. We summarise the evidence concerning the correlates of physical activity for young people, adults and older adults, and discuss the key enablers and barriers to physical activity.
