ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the theoretical foundations of life writing and more specifically historical biofiction, a type of text at the intersection of historical novel, biography, and Künstlerroman. Comprehensive discussions of Lauren Belfer’s City of Light (1999), Diane Glancy’s Stone Heart (2003), and John May’s Poe & Fanny (2004) highlight the diversity of this form of the new historical fiction.
