ABSTRACT

The hubris risk factor in this chapter is ‘intoxication of power’ illustrated with the example of Vladimir Putin; it explores the different types of power (expert, referent, coercive, reward, legitimate, and informational), the effects that power can have on leaders, and, how, if taken to extremes, the different types of power can lead to hubris. The chapter concludes with a discussion of how exposure to the intoxication of power can be avoided and what the early warning signs of the intoxication of power are.
