ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the laser scanning has greatly improved safety for crash reconstructionists and yielded significant time-savings with mapping crash scenes, and how it has strengthened the analysis of vehicle collision damage, especially for crush. Collision vehicles are laser scanned at the scene, then, as part of his vehicle autopsies, Bolzer photographs damaged cars extensively using cameras with 12 megapixels and scans them again. Prosecutors in particular cherish these models because they help them to explain more easily and understandably what occurred at a crash scene. Drones are often used for nighttime crash scenes because they can effectively supplement evidence data that are captured with a laser scanner. Some vehicle collisions can be complex enough that it may be warranted to examine vehicle crush. Slicing gave a view of how much damage had occurred in the SUV that was in the crash compared with the exemplar Ford Explorer.
