ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the new technology aimed at helping forensic and law enforcement teams collaborate on capturing scene information without multiple people actually on the crime scene; the result will be more comprehensive, accurate, and compelling presentations of the scene before a jury. Documenting a crime or crash scene must be done with extreme care. The size of the area in which a crime unfolds can vary from scene to scene, which is why police must quickly determine the size and boundaries of a crime scene. Scene contamination definitely was one of many important factors considered as Jeff Gurvis, co-founder of Visionations, a manufacturer of software for managing criminal investigation data, developed and introduced his flagship product, CrimePad. The software offers a way to save time because of the sharing of information among an investigators, detectives, and crime lab technicians.
