ABSTRACT

Digitalisation is destroying jobs at the same rate it is creating new ones. This is an opportunity for Gen Zers, despite the risks involved. In order to win over Generation Zers, the Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce and Trade initiated a project offering a practice-oriented transition from school to training. Although the current economic crisis may have darkened career prospects, it certainly will not change a feature typical of the transition from school to professional life: the agony of choice. The global economic crisis caused by the coronavirus has darkened career prospects for many Generation Zers. The coronavirus pandemic will inevitably lead to considerable problems on the educational and labour market for the younger generation, although not all segments of Generation Z will be affected equally. Generation Z, however, already has experience with crises. Having pointed to the risks that the climate crisis poses to their existence for years, they should have little difficulty dealing with the rise of artificial intelligence.
