ABSTRACT

Generation Z is thus caught between a climate crisis and a health crisis. Their activism was put to an abrupt halt by the lockdown and new health measures. The reality of the climate crisis has been known among scientists and lay people for decades, but European governments have ignored the consequences for far too long. While nearly all of Gen Z will feel the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic downturn it has caused, the disadvantaged members of this generation will suffer much more than those with greater social capital. Ultimately, the historic challenge for Generation Z will entail successfully navigating the now twin crises of climate change and the coronavirus pandemic. The post-millennials are not ego-tacticians, but eco-tacticians that are constantly speaking out in public and creating ever new approaches to fighting for a radical change in national and international climate policy.
