ABSTRACT

Generation Z is growing up at a time when schools as institutions seek answers to social and technological change. The school closures during the initial phase of the coronavirus pandemic have intensified the conversation surrounding these issues. Young people want more support from their schools; when asked what schools should teach beyond the classical subjects, they focus on skills that prepare them for life. As many as 61 percent of young people consider knowledge about nature, the environment and climate protection important, but only 41 percent feel they have sufficiently discussed the issues in class. At other schools, school companies offer computer courses to senior citizens, run a travel agency for students and teachers, arrange tutoring or run the cafeteria or the media centre.
