ABSTRACT

The chapter is introduced by contrasting two major global mobilizers of urban resilience: the UN Human Settlements programme (UN-Habitat) and the 100 Resilient Cities of the Rockefeller Foundation (100 RC). It then focuses on the role of the UN-Habitat in mobilizing the concept of urban resilience, in connection to urban vulnerability, from 2007 onwards. A quantitative analysis of policy outputs produced by UN-Habitat throughout the past decade is conducted. Based on that, the chapter identifies the policy priorities of the UN-Habitat when it comes down to urban resilience. The most common problems, as well as solutions to a lack of city resilience, are identified and discussed.
