ABSTRACT

This chapter is dedicated to exploring the birth and evolution of the 100 Resilient Cities, a non-profit organization established by the Rockefeller Foundation. Throughout its years of existence, the 100 RC became a global driving force of “urban resilience” by mobilizing local authorities across 100 city members around the world. It created an institution of Chief Resilience Officer, financing an establishment of an Office or Department of Resilience within the structures of the local governments in the member cities. It also built a global-to-local network of governmental and community organizations and private companies under the banner of urban resilience. The chapter explores the main urban problems and solutions of the member cities, as defined by 100 RC.
