ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the more behavioral and practical part of treatment, specifically in relation to individual exercises the client can practice at home to explore her body and feel more comfortable with her genitals and sexuality. The steps are explained in detail and in a progressive manner to guide the client through firstly getting to know her body as a whole, and then gradually and safely practice varying degrees of vaginal dilation using her finger. Pelvic muscle-strengthening exercises, and mindfulness and relaxation tools are also provided to help the client build a more relaxed and positive relationship with her vulva and body. By progressively overcoming some of her fears and difficulties with vaginal penetration at her own pace, she can then more confidently move on to incorporating her partner.
