ABSTRACT

The concept of a corporate security perimeter has almost disappeared in recent years owing to the growing adoption of cloud and mobile services. This chapter examines the role of data analytics in identifying and mitigating any risks, improving data-management techniques and cyber threat detection mechanisms. Cybercrime continues to rise at an alarming rate. Historically firewalls, encryption, and other traditional techniques have been used to protect against cyber-attacks. With cyber-attacks constantly evolving, these technologies cannot regularly always successfully protect the network or sensitive data. Big Data can store large quantities of data and further support analysts in examining, observing, and detecting irregularities within a network. In general, cybersecurity is the practice of defending computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks.
