ABSTRACT

The world's present rate of garbage output is not only unsustainable but, in many cases, is life-threatening to flora and fauna, humans and other-than-humans alike. Garbage itself is unsustainable, not just because of the amounts produced, but also because of our current inadequate disposal facilities, the inept and corrupt practices by those who stand to make profit from waste disposal and the failure of the judiciary to successfully prosecute criminal waste-disposal practices. In the nine eco-docs pertinent to the issue of waste and pollution, some of the major consequences of our excessive consumption habits and throwaway culture are brought into full focus. Instead of the nurturing, which is implicit in the maternal body, or the protection and care intrinsic to the good shepherd, what is present in all three eco-docs are examples of the total abuse of the ‘Right to Health' guaranteed by the Italian Constitution.
