ABSTRACT

In late 2019, Tatiana Bachkirova and David Clutterbuck invited the author to contribute a chapter on existential coaching supervision for the second edition of their book, Coaching & Mentoring Supervision. The nature and style of supervision in professions has a lot of commonality but also some key differences, including the different philosophical beliefs about the role of supervision and the differences between psychotherapy supervision and coaching supervision. In addition to looking at individual face-to-face supervision, the author have included short sections on e-supervision and group supervision. Some readers may already be well versed in the philosophical background to the approach and how it is currently being applied in psychotherapy, leadership development, and coaching. An important aspect of the work of a supervisor is to ensure that the supervisee is acting ethically and so a separate chapter is given to looking at the ethical aspects of coaching from an existential viewpoint.
