ABSTRACT

Some of the supervisees were new to existential approach and engaged with it in a spirit of openness, and sometimes of scepticism. Some were curious and just wanted to understand the theory behind the approach; others wanted to add something new to what they might offer clients. Any interventions or suggestions from the supervisor are tentative. It is intended that the supervisee, whilst accepting that comments are put forward in good faith as a starting point for debate, should feel free to challenge and interrogate the supervisor’s vision rather than passively accepting the supervisor’s comments which can inevitably only flow from their own experiences, knowledge, and expectations, and unfortunately assumptions, as no matter how hard the people try they are unable to totally eliminate their presumptions. Of course, the emphasis given by the client tell the coach a lot about what the client deems to be most meaningful, or what the client believes to be the purpose of the coaching.
