ABSTRACT

The client is aware of the time constraints of the coaching contract and will be as keen, if not more so, than the coach to find a meaningful way forward. Trust in the client is an important aspect of the approach. They hold the answer inside themselves but may need help accessing it. However, the supervisee cannot continue to explore every path, and the supervisor will help the supervisee to develop the knowledge and confidence to know when they have enough material to gently call the client back from their worldview to re-engage with the presenting issue, this time through the prism of the client’s worldview with a deeper knowledge of their values, beliefs, fears, and hopes. The supervisor would not be quiet when ethical or relational issues arise and would ensure these were not overlooked. The supervisor and supervisee would thoroughly take into consideration the ethical requirements of the world, the organisation, and the supervisee themselves.
