ABSTRACT

People, be they supervisees, clients, or supervisors, can get stuck in what has worked in the past, and so fear moving into the unknown. Humans are complex beings and solutions have to work in all the existential dimensions to make them truly attractive. An interest in uncertainty is growing in progressive professional organizations and in individuals. A coach is not a fount of all knowledge; neither is a supervisor. The role of coach/supervisee and supervisor is to engage on a journey with another, putting their energy into focusing on the dilemmas the other presents, in an open and honest way, not pretending to hold knowledge which they do not, or to offer solutions which promise to bring the supervisee what they desire. The supervisee is acting as a midwife for the client, encouraging and supporting them in giving birth to the solution to their dilemma.
