ABSTRACT

In order to address what an existential and phenomenological approach to coaching supervision might look like, it is necessary to firstly be clear what we understand by supervision. The chapter describes the concept of supervision as it has developed within people-related professions, specifically relating to psychoanalytic and psychotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy, developmental, systems, person-centred, and integrative models of supervision. The difference between the expectations of a psychotherapeutic supervisor and a coaching supervisor are considered.
