ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 provides the reader with information regarding the teaching of letters, beginning with research about letters and letter instruction. This allows the reader to gain insight on which letters are easier to learn and why and how to plan letter instruction for their students (i.e., choosing in which order to teach letters). The chapter includes age-appropriate activities for learning letters and letter-sounds. Also included is a letter name and sound assessment and a scope and sequence for teaching letters to preschool-age children.
