ABSTRACT

The central feature of an effective leadership preparation program is its curriculum. Extensive reviews of research on exemplary leadership preparation programs and quality program features point to similar features, and key among those features is a quality and coherent curriculum that emphasizes culturally responsive practices, instructional leadership, and a focus on how to lead collaborative school improvement. Building a quality curriculum involves three key phases: Mapping, Building, and Auditing. Thus, high-quality curriculum ensures that classroom work and practical experiences reflect, complement, and reinforce one another. Effective curriculum design is a multi-step, integrative, and collaborative process, wherein intentionality, integration, and impact are key. Atlantic University curriculum team members were tasked with using the program map, which illustrated where grouped standards and their Florida Atlantic University several program themes were to be included.
