ABSTRACT
United Nations (UN) peace operations are increasingly deployed to challenging situations of ongoing conflict with lofty expectations of being able to stabilise conflict zones, achieve national reconciliation, and rebuild state legitimacy. After outlining the current trends in UN peace operations this chapter then turns to explain the meaning of ‘human security’ and the importance of the concept for the practice of UN stabilization missions.
