ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author reconstructs the emotional geography of people affected with anxiety disorders in order to describe the main constituents of reality as it appears to them and the way in which they interact with it. While existential anxiety is an underlying condition to being human, phobic anxiety represents the occasional threat with which the people have not yet dealt with and it comes back to bother the reader in their daily lives. Phobic anxiety can shutter their being into pieces while they are still sitting there looking at their own disintegration from the darkness of their hole; existential anxiety is a concrete promise that the people being will be shattered eventually. The author examined the emotional geography of anxiety in order to show the way in which the emotional blockage triggered by anxiety has the power to annihilate the environment and transform its reality into a black hole in which the individuals disappear.
