ABSTRACT

The Rational Emotive Behaviour (REB) therapist should be structured in the conduct of therapy sessions by using agenda setting and other structuring methods. They should be prepared to vary their use of structure with different clients at different points in the therapeutic process. REB Therapy is a structured approach to psychotherapy. Thus, if REBT is to be practised effectively, the therapist will need to organize and structure therapy sessions with their client. The therapist should place these issues on the agenda at some point during the therapeutic process and discuss with the client the reasons for their omission. So far from being an overly consumeristic activity, if used responsibly agenda setting can be an important way of ensuring that therapy sessions are well organized and well structured. The therapist will find it particularly important to maintain a tight structure when working with a client who has a histrionic personality organization.
