ABSTRACT

Among many other lenses we use while looking at international relations, there are gender ones. Biological distinctions between sexes are accompanied by social stereotypes and gender roles, prescribed to males and females, and thus provide opportunities for discrimination and structural violence.

Feminist theories provide numerous ways of revealing and deconstructing stereotypes about masculinity and femininity. From various perspectives they demonstrate, that politics, both domestic and international, is not gender-neutral. What we think about fundamental issues like security, war, peace, development and alike, is formed under certain gender prescriptions.

Moreover, realms of politics, diplomacy, security and war have been dominated by males, as well IR. Males, influenced by stereotypes of masculinity, are making the world a less safe place. Feminist theories aim at changing that state of things.
