ABSTRACT

We conclude the book by pointing out that we require a “project for a spatiotemporal neuroscience” in order to intrinsically connect brain and psyche. Spatial topography and temporal dynamic are manifest on both neural and psychic levels, being shared by both as their “common currency”. Such a “project for a spatiotemporal neuroscience” extends both Freud’s “project for a scientific psychology” and Solms’ recent proposal of a “(new) project for a scientific psychology” by providing a deeper more fundamental level of the brain’s neural activity where brain and psyche converge. This carries major clinical-practical implications, like the need to develop a “spatiotemporal psychotherapy” as briefly sketched in the second part of the conclusion.
