ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how the triad of Skill, Capacity, and Intent shows up as action in the world. Leadership relates to those behaviours by which the author provide energy, inspiration, encouragement, and support, acting as model for others. The three aspects get too readily conflated, which brings confusion and frustration. It also explains why the people so often hear the phrase, ‘we need to be more strategic.’. A group of senior metropolitan police officers responded very quickly sitting in Landrover ready for the off within 20 minutes – but with no idea of where to go, because, in meeting their own target response time, they had failed to plan.
