ABSTRACT

This chapter, while highlighting the theory of citizenship and identity, discusses the socio-economic deprivation of the transgender community and focuses on their issues of recognition of identity and sexuality. The primary data and a few case studies are collected and narrated from Bengaluru and Delhi to explain the day-to-day violence and issues faced by the transgender community. A critical analysis of laws such as the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019 and existing policies on transgender are explicated here.
