ABSTRACT

This chapter confronts the challenge of the combination of language and culture in culture teaching of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL). I first review teaching Chinese language and culture in addition to discussing the importance of combining culture and language in culture teaching. Then I review the practice of combining language and culture in culture teaching of Chinese as foreign language education. Following that, I demonstrate how to combine culture with language points in culture teaching with the evidence of emergent L2 teaching points in TV drama clips through a comparison of L2 focus group data and L1 focus group data, including my personal data analysis.
