ABSTRACT

The scientific enterprise has been probing solutions for an improved quality of life for aged individuals. Traditionally, ageing tends to be described in terms of losses of a multiple nature, and for some of the oldest ones, it seems to be the sum of all those losses that can be catastrophic and could lead to significant depression. Ageing thus seems to be the saga of loss and sadness. The idea pinpoints that decay and diminishments are the rules in old age. But the positive perspective is to look at its silver lining and the positive attitude of offering means to live more happily in extended years and is the correct orientation in today’s world. Research into ageing and spirituality has the basic assumption of ageing as a journey, as a search for meaning, balance, integration, and reconciliation. Basic feature-wise spiritual interventions are found to be more cross-cultural, affective, transcendent, and definitionally experiential.
